From the beautiful architecture of the Alcázar Palace to the Seville Cathedral and Palacio de Bellas Artes, this city has plenty of stunning sites to see. But it’s also so much more than that. With its own vibrant cultural scene and a fabulous foodie destination, this UNESCO World Heritage Site is a place you simply cannot miss.
There really are so many places to explore. From its Moorish origins to its artistic and architectural wonders, Seville has become a thriving metropolis that knows how to do things big!
What are the best things to see in Seville? Let’s take a look…
1) SEVILLE ALCÁZAR
If you’re looking for the best Seville attractions, you don’t need to look beyond the Alcazar. One of the most recognizable spots from Seville has to be this building.
Forming part of a Royal Palace (that is still used by the Spanish royal family), this UNESCO World Heritage site is one of the best things to do in Seville for sure.
The palace complex is built in a Mudejar style and was developed centuries ago. A great tour to help make your day in Seville even better is with this skip-the-line tour. With it, you’ll be able to avoid those huge queues and get straight into the beautiful Alcazar.
2) SEVILLE CATHEDRAL
Seville Cathedral is the world’s largest cathedral by volume and home to Christoper Columbus. It can be seen from the La Giralda Tower, the old minaret of a mosque converted into a bell tower of the cathedral.
A pretty enormous place that’s hard to miss in the city itself. Make sure to book these queue jump tickets and get right into this UNESCO World Heritage Site.
3) GIRALDA TOWER
Giralda tower is considered to be one of the most important landmarks in Seville. After all, this high bell tower is the only surviving remnant of the mosque that stood here for centuries. Once you get to the top of this tower, it’s easy to see why! Climbing those ramps takes a while, but it’s totally worth it once you reach the top and look out over Seville from above. The stunning views from up there will be etched into your memory forever and make for some amazing photos for your holiday snaps!
4) METROPOL PARASOL
Seville is a wonderful city with so much to see, so we wondered what were the top ten things to do in Seville. If you're looking for views over Seville, pop to the Space Metropol Parasol at La Encarnación square. Opened a few years ago, it's one of Seville's newest and coolest things to see. Once here, make sure to take a stroll around the upper levels (especially around sunset).
5) PLAZA DE ESPAÑA
Plaza de España is a monumental public space located on the edge of the Guadalquivir River in Seville, Spain. The square was constructed in 1929 for the Ibero-American Exposition to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the discovery of America. The plaza takes its name from this exposition. It is listed by UNESCO as one of the World Heritage Sites.
Plaza de España is also known as The Citadel (Ciudadela) due to its shape resembling a fortification wall.
The Plaza de Espana is a must-see and one of the best things to see in Seville (especially if you have kids with you) and there are plenty of little nooks and crannies to explore around it, too. There are loads of little cafes, museums and monuments tucked away around the edge of this huge plaza that make it a great day out.
6) MARIA LUISA PARK
Maria Luisa Park was once the private gardens of San Telmo Palace, and today it’s one of Seville’s largest and most impressive parks. Walking along the vast trails and exploring the botanic garden is a lovely way to unwind, and can be easily combined with a trip to Plaza de Espana.
It has hundreds of years of history and it's one of the best things to do in Seville if you fancy slowing down your pace.
Afterwards, stop by La Monda (on Calle de Don Remondo) for some grilled octopus tapas!
7) TRIANA DISTRICT
The Tirana area of Seville is one of the most vibrant and flamenco-filled areas of the city. It’s famous for the vibrant colours, shop stalls and traditional buildings that line the streets. Once here make sure to visit Plaza de Altozano which has a pretty famous statue of a flamenco dancer. The whole area is full of Moorish buildings, baroque architecture and shops selling stunning azulejo tiles and ceramics.
If you're craving a sweet treat, don't miss out on Los Valencianos where they serve up some of their most popular menu items like horchata (and ice cream).
The Triana area of Seville is a great place to sample the best of what the city has to offer: beautiful architecture, fascinating history and fantastic food and drink.
8) SEVILLE’S MUSEUMS
If you fancy getting out of the sun (for a little bit) pop straight over to Seville’s museums which are amazing.
The Archaeological Museum is one of the best in Spain and has exhibits from the Bronze Age.
The Fine Arts Museum hold works mostly from the 17th and 18th centuries that were once in religious establishments (convents and monasteries) that were closed in the 19th century. It’s one of the best things to do in Seville, especially if you fancy a bit of history or explore
old religious buildings that have been converted into museums.
