The province of Almeria is located in the east of the region and has a coastline of about 250 km, a hot and dry climate. In the interior we find mountains and desert.

Cordoba is in the interior of the region and was for centuries the capital of the Caliphate of Al Andalus. Its river, the Guadalquivir, is between the Subbética Mountain range, to the south, and the Sierra Morena to the north.
